rock crawler
We’re proud to present a detailed look at the 2023 Goat Built Jesse Haynes Rock Crawler—a two-seat, fully custom-built rock buggy designed for extreme off-road performance. Every component has been meticulously selected and assembled to ensure reliability and capability on the toughest trails.

Chassis: Goat Built JHF Platform
The foundation of this build is the Goat Built JHF chassis, a DIY-friendly platform known for its durability and flexibility. Constructed from 1.75″ x .120″ DOM tubing, this chassis provides a robust structure for the entire vehicle.

Powertrain: 6.0L LS V8 Engine
At the heart of this crawler lies a 6.0L LS V8 engine, sourced from a junkyard and enhanced with a performance camshaft and intake manifold. While exact horsepower figures haven’t been dyno-tested, it’s estimated to produce between 425 and 450 horsepower. This engine offers a balance of power and reliability, crucial for demanding off-road conditions.
Transmission & Transfer Case: Turbo 400 & Atlas 2-Speed
Power is transmitted through a GM Turbo 400 automatic transmission featuring a full manual reverse-pattern valve body, ensuring precise control over gear selection. This setup is paired with an Atlas 2-speed transfer case, providing versatility with high and low range gearing options.

Axles & Drivetrain: GM 14-Bolt & Ford Dana 60
The crawler is equipped with heavy-duty axles: a GM 14-bolt rear axle and a late-model Ford Dana 60 front axle. These axles are fitted with chromoly shafts and an ARB air locker in the rear, offering durability and traction in challenging terrains
Suspension: Triangulated 4-Link with Radflow Coilovers
Both the front and rear suspension systems utilize a triangulated 4-link design, providing optimal articulation and stability. Radflo 2.0 coilovers, sourced from American Off-Road Customs, are employed to absorb impacts and maintain control over rough surfaces.

Wheels & Tires: Raceline & Interco Super Swamper
The crawler rides on Raceline wheels paired with 43-inch Interco Super Swamper tires. These tires are known for their exceptional grip and durability, essential for navigating rocky and uneven terrains.
Steering: PSC 2.5" x 10" Ram Assist
Steering is handled by a PSC 2.5″ x 10″ hydraulic ram assist, providing 50 degrees of steering angle. This setup ensures precise maneuverability, crucial for tight turns and obstacle navigation.

Interior: Functional & Minimalist Design
Inside, the focus is on functionality and safety. The vehicle features heated PRP seats, 5.3 harnesses, a detachable steering wheel, and cutting brakes that allow for sharp turns by locking individual rear wheels. A Switch Pro setup controls various functions, including lockers, lights, and accessories.
Safety & Convenience Features
Safety is paramount, with a battery cutoff switch, ignition start button, and a theft deterrent system that includes a removable steering wheel. The interior also boasts a diamond-tuck suede headliner and a passenger grab handle for added comfort and security.

Tools & Recovery Gear
The rear area is equipped with essential tools and recovery gear, including a fuel tank filled with high-octane fuel and a cooler for beverages. This minimalist approach ensures that only necessary items are carried, reducing weight and enhancing performance.
Cooling System: Rear-Mounted Radiator
To optimize engine cooling, the radiator is mounted behind the seats. This configuration keeps the front end compact and directs heat away from the driver, improving comfort and visibility.

Build Philosophy
This rock crawler was built with a focus on reliability, performance, and simplicity. By selecting high-quality components and maintaining a minimalist approach, the vehicle is equipped to handle the rigors of off-road adventures while ensuring ease of maintenance and repair.
